Airlines

If you are coming from the Bay Area or Chicago, your best option is Southwest Airlines. They have many daily flights from the Bay Area via San Jose (SJC) or Oakland. Flight from Chicago depart from the Midway airport.

You get very cheap fares by purchasing the ticket 14 days before departure. Here are the links to check the flight schedule or making reservations. Keep in mind that the online fares are generally cheaper.

Transportation to UCSD from San Diego Airport (SAN)

There are many door-to-door shuttles serving the San Diego county. Just follow the signs for "Ground Transportation" at the terminal and an agent will redirect you to the correct shuttle stop. I usually use the Cloud 9 Shuttle. They accept all the major credit cards. The UCSD campus is located about 14 miles north of the airport.

If you are driving North(South) on I-5 get off at exit #28B "La Jolla Village Dr" and make a left (right) at the end of the ramp. Pass the intersection with "Villa La Jolla Dr" and the campus entrance and the Gilman visitor center will be immediately on your right.

Transportation to UCSD from Los Angeles Airport (LAX)

The Los Angeles International Airport is located about 113 miles north of UCSD. Although there are shuttle services like Cloud 9 Shuttle (reservation is required) that provide service to San Diego, they typically cost up to $250! If you are arriving at LAX you might want to consider renting a car at LAX and dropping it at the San Diego airport.

After exiting the airport, follow the directions for 405-South. After about 40miles this freeway merges into 5-South. After about 65 more miles you will be very close to UCSD. Take the exit #28 "La Jolla Village Dr", make a right at the end of the ramp. Pass the trafic light at "Villa La Jolla Drive", and follow the directions on your right that take you to the Gilman Entrance of the campus.

Price Center

The CKM2005 plenary and parallel sessions take place at the meeting rooms located at the Price Center in the heart of the UCSD Campus.

There are several parking structures close to Pric Center. We have resereved 50 parking spots at the Faculty Club coveniently located within 100 meters from the meeting rooms. You should purchase the tickets at the time of registration.

Parking for CKM2005

We strongly advise that you purchase parking permits in advance. If you registered without purchasing them and you want to do so, please contact Marilyn K. Samms.

On weekdays you need a parking permit to park in the Yellow and Green parking lots. Parking is free on weekends and holidays unless otherwise specified at the lots.

You can locate all buildings and parking lots by visiting the UCSD interactive map and entering the name of the building or the parking lot number.

For the CKM2005 workshop, we have made special arrangements to reserve 50 parking spots at the Faculty Club, within 100 meters of the workshop location. You can purchase these permits at the time of registration. These permits are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Physics Department (Mayer Hall) on UCSD Campus

The Physics Department is located at Mayer Hall close to the Gilman entrance of the campus on Gilman drive.

Accomodations suggested for CKM2005

San Diego is the 7th largest city in the US. There are many hotels in the city and you can generally find good deals on Orbitz. There are a few relatively close to the campus. Here is a map of the area with the location of the suggested hotels and motels.

You need to make your own reservation directly. In most cases you can do this online. Ask for the CKM2005 rate when making your reservation.

This hotel is within walking distance from the workshop locations on campus and also to two malls with restaurants and movie theatres.

This is a beautiful Inn with ocean view about 8 miles north of the campus. It is a pleasent drive to the campus along the coastline. It is walking distance from Torrey Pines State Beach, and downtown Del Mar which has a very nice family beach, shopping center, and restaurants
